About IMPULS DEUTSCH

IMPULS DEUTSCH is a unique German program designed specifically to appeal to diverse student populations. It is a modern and sophisticated textbook series that students will be eager to use and that teachers will find easy and enjoyable to implement in their classrooms. While the theories and methods that undergird these books are widely accepted and supported, IMPULS DEUTSCH is unlike any other German textbook series on the market.

Why IMPULS DEUTSCH?

Multiple Perspectives: IMPULS DEUTSCH offers content from multiple disciplines, designed specifically to appeal to diverse student populations. Students will engage with fresh content from the arts, humanities, and STEM fields, while building transferrable, real-world skills. They will connect with topics concerning all people on an existential level.
Inclusiveness: IMPULS DEUTSCH sees its students and instructors as belonging to the German-speaking community. In this view, its interaction with and depiction of people is purposely sensitive to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, and dis/ability.
Flipped classroom: IMPULS DEUTSCH fully incorporates the flipped classroom approach into the three principal student components: LERNEN, MACHEN, and ZEIGEN. The success of the class depends on students coming to class prepared to learn with their fellow learners.

Flexibility: Vertiefungsstunden are special units that do not introduce new grammar. They can be left out to build flexibility into your syllabus, or they can be included to reinforce grammar while engaging with new material.
Attitude: Learning German should be fun. IMPULS DEUTSCH elevates its tone in line with the maturity level of college students and instructors. Students and the issues they face are taken very seriously, but, at the same time, our hope is that you will appreciate the elements of humor that have been built into IMPULS DEUTSCH.
Interactive: The philosophy of Communicative Language Teaching serves as the backbone to this series. Students are presented with multiple ways of putting what they have learned and practiced into action. Whether your class is online or face-to-face, every lesson in IMPULS DEUTSCH stresses meaningful interaction, the foundation of language learning.

IMPULS DEUTSCH offers an active learning approach to German language acquisition. Students prepare before class, freeing up class time for interactive learning. Emphasizing student responsibility, it provides varied exercises to enhance comprehension. With a focus on higher cognitive skills, it promotes engaging language acquisition through structured phases: learning, doing, and reinforcing.

Teacher's Manual (digital only)

The Teacher’s Manual contains an abundance of annotations created to complement various teaching contexts and styles, save time in class preparation, and implement ways for effective differentiation in instruction and assessment. It also includes answer keys, ideas and recommendations on how to extend the activities further, and much more.
